Sometimes I wonder how we ever made it without our smartphones. Yes, they’ve only been around for a handful of years, but let’s be honest, hardly anyone uses maps anymore. Navigation isn’t the only thing that your phone is good for though! We catch ourselves looking for restaurants, checking our emails and browsing social media sites on a constant basis. When we’re out on the road, it helps to have a handful of apps that will actually help us get where we’re going and help us find what we’re looking for. Here’s a few that you definitely need to have on your smartphone next time you hit the road for a vacation.

Google Maps

The grand-daddy of all navigation apps is a must-have. There’s a reason Google Maps is one of the most popular downloads: because it works! Everything from the distance to your next turn, upcoming traffic, and even what lanes you need to be in are all part of this amazing guide to our roadways. You’ll never get lost (unless you forget to charge your phone), even if you’re in an area with poor cell phone reception, your GPS will continue to guide you where you need to be. It’ll even find you quicker routes, saving you money and time in the long run!

Gas is a pretty sizable chunk of your traveling budget. Make no mistake about it, hauling a house on wheels across the state (or the country) is going to make your wallet feel a little lighter. That’s where GasBuddy comes in. It will search around you, using your GPS, to help you find the cheapest gas. You can sort by price and by distance so you’ll know how long it’ll take you to get there and just how much it’ll cost. Even if it it’s just a few cents per gallon, over time those few cents add up and you could save a good chunk of change for your next trip!

Are you looking for a quick bite to eat, but you don’t know what’s around you? Yelp is the answer! You can select a specific area and get listings of just about every restaurant in the area, with reviews to help you decide whether or not you want to take the family for a night out. Do you wonder what other people think about that diner you passed on the way to your campsite? Take a look and see for yourself! I even use Yelp when I’m at home. I’m always finding new places to eat!

RV Camps Locator

If you’re one of those RVers that just like to wing it and set out on an adventure with no real plan, then you definitely want to keep this app on your phone. It’s essentially a database of RV campgrounds all across the nation. So, when you finally decide which direction you want to go, you can easily find a campsite that will fit your needs and you can be on your way in the morning. Don’t keep driving until you find a spot to camp for the night, if you’re in a remote part of the country, you could be driving for hours!
